Kansas Sports Hall Of Fame

Wichita, Kansas is home to the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame - a museum in honor of sportspersons who have brought glory to themselves as well as the entire Kansas. The museum holds a wide range of exhibits, facilities, archives, services activities to further its purpose.

The museum was founded as part of Kansas Centennial Celebrations in 1961. During the half a century of its existence, the museum had different homes before moving to Wichita.

June, 2009 saw the creation of Kansas Sports Museum at The Chisholm Trail Center in Newton. Simultaneously the hall of fame also announced its intent to move to the Wichita Boathouse in an effort to save costs. The new facility at Newton will occupy 21,000 square foot. The twin facilities at the Kansas sports museum and the Kansas Sports Hall of fame are expected to serve the sporting community of Kansas and the visitors better.

With the economic downturn taking its toll on several museums across the nation, it may be some time before most of these facilities are able to get their acts together to provide a satisfying experience to visitors who travel Kansas City MO.
