Parks and Recreation

The 132 miles of parkways and spacious boulevards, over 200 urban parks, close to 50 ornamental fountains, 105 tennis courts, 10 community centers, five museums, five golf courses, 30 pools, nearly 50 park shelters and all of them efficiently managed by the Parks and Recreation department of Kansas City acts as a major contributor to Kansas City travel and tourism.

Much of the boulevard and Parks system belongs to the late 1800 and early 1900. The 19 mile parkway 'The Paseo' runs through the city center and starts at the Cliff drive. This parkway is modeled on a fashionable boulevard in Mexico.

The 1805 acre Swope Park is amongst the largest of City Parks in the United States and nearly double the size of the Central Park in New York. Swope Park has an in-house zoo, two golf courses, a rescue center for wildlife and nature, an amphitheater, a day-camp space, and a number of picnic spots.

The Hodge Park covers 1029 acres and the Living History museum occupies 80 acres at this park. You will also find a village belonging to the 18th century with about 20 historical buildings from those times. Riverfront Park is yet another massive park offered by Kansas City and is located right on the banks of the Missouri River.

We have only dealt with the Park system here as a starter to help you acquaint yourself with what can be expected under each of the outdoor activities. Going around the fountain City of Kansas and taking stock of the 50 fountains alone can take more than a day.

Therefore, set aside adequate number of days to enjoy all these when you travel Kansas City.
